Teen Facials

The teenage years are the perfect time to establish healthy skin care habits. Teenagers face changes to change the way their skin looks and feels as they begin to go through puberty and often are not educated on how to care for their skin. A session with an esthetician is the perfect time to introduce them to a skin care regimen, learn what the best products for their skin type are, and help them manage any skin concerns before they get out of hand.

Acne is perhaps the most common skin concern for teenagers, and a trained esthetician can help manage breakouts as well as perform extractions skillfully, keeping the teenager from picking at their face and causing scarring. It’s also a great opportunity to educate a teen on how to manage dryness, oiliness, and the importance of maintaining a daily routine. Finally, a teen can learn about environmental protection and the importance of sun care.

Beyond establishing healthy skin care habits, preventing skin problems early, and educating a young person on ambient protection, facials have many benefits. Teens today are more stressed than ever before, and have to deal with heightened pressure at school and in extracurricular activities. They also spend less time engaging in physical activity and more time in front of screens. Facials can be a great stress reliever and do wonders for a complexion that may be sallow or lack color from a modern lifestyle.

At Wax Me Boutique, we offer a Teen Facial that is designed uniquely for teenagers! This facial is gentle and non-intimidating, and is a great introduction to the world of routine skin care. Our estheticians are trained to work with teens to ensure they are comfortable and can learn about skin care as part of the treatment. We tailor the treatment to ensure that we address each individual’s skin concerns in our session. Contact us today to find out more or book an appointment!

The “Fire and Ice” Facial by Eminence

The Fire and Ice Facial by Eminence is the hottest new trend in Hollywood skincare – but does it live up to the hype? I put it to the test under the guidance of my trusted esthetician at Wax Me Boutique.

The facial is exactly what it sounds like, a hot treatment followed by a cold treatment. The fire comes from a face mask blended with spices. It gets very warm on your skin, and while I would not say it is uncomfortable, it is certainly a potent mask. It encourages circulation and cell turnover, so once it was removed, my skin was very warm and red. I felt like I was blushing but had no reason to do so. The fire mask was then replaced with the cooling mask, made with ingredients like peppermint, cucumber and tea tree. The cooling mask is very pleasant and soothing, and immediately calms any redness and inflammation that may have resulted from the fire mask. The whole treatment smells amazing and, despite some squirming under the hot mask, was enjoyable.

The real question, however, is the long-term effect of the treatment. Since the treatment, my skin has been clear and glowing – to the point that I cringe at putting on foundation because it dulls my skin in comparison. Part of this effect must of course be from my strict regimen of monthly facials, as a regular facial schedule is the key to great skin. Still, I can’t remember the last time that my skin was not actually improved with some makeup coverage and I actually wanted to show off my bare skin. My ultimate facial goals have always been to feel comfortable in my own skin, with or without makeup, and it seems that the coveted “Fire and Ice” Facial finally got me to that place.

The Case for Facials

Facials are so misunderstood. Many consider them unnecessary, an expensive luxury, or a rare treat. Not many people know that facials are great skin maintenance, that a one-off facial will have minimal results but a regular facial schedule will reward you with clear, glowing skin.

So, how to reap all the great benefits of regular facials? First, find an esthetician that you feel comfortable with. It doesn’t need to be the most expensive salon in your neighborhood, so make sure you trust the person who is taking your skin into their hands (literally!)  Once you find someone you like, give them a few tries to make sure your skin is reacting well. Keep in mind that your first facial may result in breakouts as your skin adjusts. If you’re not liking the results after 3 or 4 sessions, talk to your esthetician about adjusting the treatments or move on to another.

Finally, don’t expect results overnight. While your skin might see some immediate results or glow a little more after a facial, the real benefits come from repeated treatments. You should be getting a facial every 3-5 weeks, depending on your skin type. Your skin cells respond well to routine, so keeping up with your facial regimen will help you attain the best results. Massage helps improve circulation in your face and is more effective when done by someone else – if your brain doesn’t know it’s coming, it’s taken by surprise at the experience. Extractions, when performed by a trained esthetician, help tighten your pores and prevent buildup. Regular treatments will help you get the clear, glowing complexion you’ve always dreamed of.
